The League of Women Voters, the Auburn Chamber of Commerce and the Opelika Chamber of Commerce Host a Lee County Candidate’s Forum
What: Lee County Candidate’s Forum
When: Tuesday, October 17, 2006, 6 to 8:30 pm
Where: Opelika Middle School Auditorium, 1206 Denson Drive, Opelika
Purpose: 1/ The forum will provide an opportunity for the electorate to hear in person from Lee County candidates running for state and local office.
2/ The forum will provide candidates who are running the opportunity to present their platform to the electorate in an organized, neutral environment.
Format: The evening will begin with a focus on local elections and will conclude with state elections.
Each candidate for a particular office who chooses to take part in the forum will be given a brief opportunity to introduce him or herself. Each candidate will be asked to address the following in their opening remarks:
- The most important qualifications they bring to the office for which they are running
- How they will be accessible to their constituents
- What priorities they would set for their office
After introductions, both candidates for a particular office will then take part in a question answer session, based on questions submitted prior to the event by local citizens. After the question and answer session, each candidate will be given a short period for closing remarks.
This forum is not a debate. The organizers of the event will work hard to ensure the most neutral, yet informed facilitator possible will lead the forum.
Participating Candidates: Will be named at a later date
Sponsored by: The League of Women Voters, the Auburn Chamber of Commerce and the Opelika Chamber of Commerce
