This arts and crafts style event will feature a variety of vendors, children's activities and entertainment. Garden in the Park is a fundraiser to benefit the Little Red Caboose lcoated at the Opelika Depot in Historic Downtown Opelika.

Piedmont Plateau Birding Trail Launches 34 approved Birding Sites

The Piedmont Birding Trail is made up of nine east-central counties which offers 3.5 million acres of birding opportunities! Counties included are the following: Autauga, Chambers, Clay, Chilton, Coosa, Elmore, Lee Randolph and Tallapoosa. The trail is the fifth of eight organized trals that will ultimately cover the state as birding becomes an increasingly important source of tourism revenue for Alabama.

As a form of tourism, birding has seen significant growth both nationally and certainly in Alabama over the past several years. Statistics show that the typical birding enthusiast is older and well-educated with disposable income - just the type tourist that we welcome to this area.

The variety in habitat that exists from north Alabama to the Gulf Coast means we have a tremendous range of birds that can be seen in the state and on this trail. The birding trail is not only a valuable means of attracting more visitors to our area, it is also a great educational resource for our students and an opportunity for inexpensive family outings. Schools can use the trail sites for field trips.

NLRA Posting Notice Requirement Delayed until January 31, 2012

The National Labor Relations Board extended the implementation deadline for its notice posting rule from November 14 - January, 31, 2012.

As a result of this delay, nearly all private sector employers will now be required to post a notice that outlines employee rights under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) by January 31, 2012.

Please note that this announcement does not impact the current requirement that certain federal contractors must post NLRA employee rights in their workplaces. that requirement was established by President Obama's Executive Order signed on January 30, 2009.
